Hon. Colonial Secretary,

The tins were the usual 5 tael size. The labels

are used in many places now. There is no firm called Lam Kei Hop, existing at present, but the original label is extensively copied. I have in my possession dies for the

label. Such dies have been seized here more than once.

Loose labels similar to these were found in the possession of the Captain of S.S. "Po Sang", who was convicted this year of smuggling from Kwong Chow Wan. Though similar labels have been used for opium originating in Macau, it is more probable that this opium was prepared from Indian opium at Kwong Chow Wan. The object of the indistinct printing appears to be to convey the idea that the die is an old one much worn by long continued use. Quite new dies

which I have seen were just the same.

(sd.) J. D. Lloyd,

Superintendent of Imports & Exports.
